Let's continue building together!

ELECTION DAY: TUESDAY, MAY 19

Meet Dr. Wigley:

Dr. Cindy Saye Wigley has proudly served as Superintendent of Marshall County Schools for more than ten years, leading a district of 6,000 students across 14 schools. A lifelong resident of Marshall County, Dr. Wigley grew up in Douglas, graduated from Douglas High School, and went on to earn degrees from Auburn University and the University of Alabama, including her doctorate in Educational Leadership. She and her husband, Chad, also Douglas graduates, raised their two sons in the Mt. Hebron community, where they continue to live and farm today.

With 30 years of experience as a teacher, principal, Career Tech Director, and superintendent, Dr. Wigley knows Marshall County Schools from the inside out. Under her leadership, the district has:

  • Student Safety: Ranked among the top 30 safest school systems in Alabama, with incident reports reduced by 40%. She has secured full-time school resource officers in every school, added 79 new buses with modern safety features, and led over $80 million in new classroom construction projects. Marshall County was the first district in the state to implement both the Securly safety platform and the VEOCI emergency management system.

  • Fiscal Responsibility: Oversees a $70 million balanced budget, leveraging a $16 million energy savings initiative to fund major upgrades—new roofs, air-conditioned gyms, classroom additions, and even a new stadium—without raising taxes. She has also written millions in safety and facility grants to meet local needs despite a limited tax base.

  • Student Achievement: Raised the district’s state report card from a “C” to a “B,” with graduation rates at 91% and DAR High School ranked among the top 40 in Alabama. Students earn more than $4 million in college scholarships annually, and industry credential attainment has increased by 400%.

Dr. Wigley is recognized across Alabama and the nation for her leadership. She has earned the National Superintendent Certification from AASA, served on the AASA National Dual Enrollment Committee, and held positions on the boards of the School Superintendents of Alabama and the Council for Leaders of Alabama Schools. Her honors include the Marbury Technology Innovation Award, SSA District 9 Superintendent of the Year, and induction into the SSA Circle of Distinction.

At the heart of her work is a simple promise: to keep students safe, manage taxpayer dollars wisely, and prepare every child for success beyond high school. With a proven record of results and deep roots in the community, Dr. Wigley is running for re-election in May 2026 to continue building a stronger future for Marshall County Schools.
